At noon on December 4 (Cuba time), after a 4-day journey, starting from the capital Havana, leader Fidel Castro’s ashes were buried at Santa Ifigenia cemetery – where many Cuban national heroes rest.
Cuban President Raul Castro placed the wooden coffin containing Fidel Castro’s ashes inside a stone tomb at Santa Ifigenia cemetery.
The grave of leader Fidel Castro with a blue marble stele inscribed with the word `Fidel` was placed next to the grave of national hero Jose Marti – a monument in the 19th century national liberation struggle.
Previously, President Raul Castro, younger brother of leader Fidel Castro, held a family funeral inside the cemetery.
